PAST EVENTS
Surrey Canada Day
For over a decade, Cree Native Productions has programmed and designed the Indigenous Village & Marketplace at Surrey Canada Day, Western Canada’s largest free Canada Day celebration.
Following the discovery of the remains of 215 children at the Kamloops Residential School site, many Canada Day celebrations were cancelled. We saw this as an important moment to help the community learn and reflect on this and the true history of Canada.
In 2022, our team worked with the City of Surrey to expand the Indigenous Village through new programming, educational signage, and interactive displays, including Sharing Circles to help attendees understand the hardships Indigenous peoples endured while attending Residential Schools.
Our team:
-
Developed and coordinated Indigenous programming on the Siam Stage, including musicians, cultural dance performances, and more
-
Procured and managed Indigenous food and market vendors in the Indigenous Marketplace
-
Created educational signage about Indigenous culture, traditions, and history
-
Oversaw on-site coordination and management of all artists and vendors
-
Designed site layout with authentic Indigenous decor and displays, including Teepee and Longhouse installations
